Conservation and restoration

Caroline Oliver Conservation has over 15 years experience in the conservation and restoration of picture frames and gilding. The treatments undertaken include:

  • Structural repairs
  • Consolidation
  • Filling of losses to gesso
  • Replacement of missing decorative elements
  • Retouching and re-gilding
  • Toning to an appropriate level
  • Conservation framing of oil paintings and works on paper.
  • Preparation of microclimate frames for the protection and/or loan of vulnerable paintings is a speciality.

All treatments start with an assessment and written treatment proposal. The scope is agreed with the client, which can depend upon factors such as current condition, future use and budget available, and then the work can be scheduled. All work is fully documented and photographed, and a Treatment Report is provided to the client upon completion.
